DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z June 23, 2025
SMOKE: Alaska/Yukon/Central Canada/Central and Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean… Widespread wildfire activity across Alaska, the Yukon, and central Canada continued to generate smoke which spread over large areas of the Northern Hemisphere. Thick to moderate density smoke plumes were seen moving east from northern British Columbia to western Ontario. Wildfires in the central and eastern U.S. were also seen producing light density smoke, which was carried the weather system and merged with smoke from Alaska and Canadian fires. Northern Mexico/Rocky Mountain States... Wildfires in northern Sonora, northern Baja California, southwestern New Mexico, and southwestern Utah were observed producing locally moderate to thick smoke this afternoon and evening. The smoke plumes were moving generally east and northeast. YL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
